Osmosis- Gummy Bears!

Osmosis: The movement of solvent through that wall of a solid.

Aim:

I want to find out what happens to Gummy Bears when we put them into different liquids

Prediction:

I think the Gummy Bears are going to shrink or grow in the liquids

Method:

Equipment

- Three solutions- Water-Sugar- and salt

- Four Gummy Bears of the same colour

- Two petri Dishes

- Maker pen

- Electronic Balance

- Beaker

Steps

1. Get your Equipment

2. Label Petri dishes with DRY, WATER, SALT WATER, SUGAR WATER

3. Weight the Gummy Bears and record their weight on the petri Dish.

4. Add 40mL of the solution into the petri dish.

Findings:

Weight change

Solvent

Dry

Wet

Water

2.35

4.50

Salt water

2.20

2.60

Sugar Water

2.22

3.29

FINDINGS:

The water that was included in the first gummy bear petri dish made the gummy bear change from a dry weight of (2.35)  to a wet Weight of (4.50) The difference between the two weights was the water in the water it absorbed more liquid  This means that the Gummy  bears absorbed this amount through the progress of osmosis.

The salt water gummy bear petri dish had a change from a dry weight of 2.20  TO a wet weight of (2.60)  The difference in these weights are that the salt water grew more.

The sugar water solution in the petri dish with the gummy bears made the gummy bear weigh 3.29 This means it absorbed 1.07 water in total

The gummy bear that changed the most was the gummy bear in the normal  water.

Floods

                                     Floods

Last week there were floods around Christchurch and lots of other places I think that biggest flood was in Ashburton. It was really wet and cold for a couple days now it has been sunny.

Fact about the Flood in Ashburton

Hundreds of north Canterbury residents have been evacuated from their homes - and further south, hundreds more Ashburton residents are on standby

The entire Canterbury region is now under a state of emergency and around 75 schools and preschools are closed on Monday as residents prepare for more upheaval.

Ashburton mayor Neil Brown said some locals had already started to evacuate overnight as rising river levels continued.

Pink Shirt Day

Friday Blog Day

Dear Readers

Today's Blog is  about Pink shirt day, something we've been working on in class this week.

Pink shirt day is to draw attention to the harmful effects of bullying and how it's important to be an outstander who can help prevent and stop bullying and not a bystander who looks on while others are being  bullied.

Can you say you're an outstander?

Quote of Week

BE A BUDDY NOT A BULLY!!!

Parihaka

 Kia Ora
Today's blog is about Parihaka.

In the 1870s and 1880s, Parihaka was the site of New Zealand most visible episodes of peaceful protest when two Maori leaders, Te Whiti & Tohu Kakahi used passive resistance methods to occupy Maori land that the colonial government had confiscated.

Here are some images to illustrate my work. I hope you like them and also my content. Please leave a comment that will hopefully encourage me to continue Blogging and make improvements where necessary.
