My 10 uses of baking soda are:

  1. Traet heartburn

  2. Mouth wash

  3. Sooth canker sores

  4. deodorant

  5. May improve exercise preformance

  6. Relieve itchy skin and sunburns

  7. May slow the progression of chronic kindney diesase

  8. Neutralize fridge odors

  9. Air freashner

  10. Kitchen cleaner

Making Sherbet

We need to write down our equipment and the steps we will go through to make our sherbet.

Once we have completed the materials and steps we can make sherbet.

While you are eating your sherbet you can answer the 5 questions at the end.

Equipment:

  1. Sugar

  2. Baking Soda

  3. Raro Crystals

  4. Cirtic Acid

  5. Tartaric Acid

Steps

1. Add the baking soda sugar and citric acid together in a bowl.

2. Add the Raro crystals and tartaric acid together.

3. Add all ingredents together and place in a plastic bag.

4. Mix it well together and eat it. Yuck

Recipe:

1 teaspoon of powdered drink crystals (eg Raro)

1/4 teaspoon of citric acid

1 teaspoon of Icing Sugar

1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda.

Findings:

1. Which two ingredients in the sherbet are involved in the chemical reaction?

2. Which ingredients are not involved?

3. Can you think of any other chemical reactions that might happen in the kitchen?

4. Which ingredient is an acid?

5. Which ingredient is a base?

Acids and bases

Aim: To make red cabbage pH indicator for use on different household chemicals.

Red Cabbage Indicator experiment

Materials

  1. Red Cabbage

  2. Beaker

  3. Bunsen Burner

  4. Pipette

  5. Sodium Hydroxide

  6. Hydrochloric acid

  7. Test tubes x5

  8.  paper towels

  9. Test tube rack

  10. Water Steps

    1. Chop up the red cabbage into small pieces. Place in a beaker and cover with a small amount of water.

    2. Bring the solution to the boil using a bunsen burner and then turn off the heat. Let it sit to cool down.

    3. Pour the cabbage water through a paper towel into a beaker. The dark purple liquid in the jar is the pH indicator liquid.

    4. Suck up the indicator into a pipette.

    5. In a test tube, use the cabbage indicator and the pH chart below to test the acidity of the the hydrochloric acid and ammonium hydroxide.Findings.

What is the pH of liquids.

      1. Sodium Hydroxide

      2. Hydrochloric acid

Science

 Bacteria

Aim: To learn about bacteria and how they grow

Equipment:

1. Agar dish

2. Cotton bud swab

3. vivid pen

Method:

1 Collect the bacteria on cotton bud swab from taps, computer, keyboards or desk

2. Divide the agar in half by drawing a line open the lid.

3.wipe the swab onto the agar soloution.

4. Put the petri dish into the incubator for 1 week to allow the backteria to grow.

5. Draw and label a bacteria

6. Draw and label a scientific diagram of the experiment.

Milk plastic

Milk plastic

Aim: Make milk into plastic

Equipment

Stove,oven, Microwave
Measuring cup
Measuring spoon
Milk
pot or Container
White vinegar
paper towels
spoon
Mug
Food colouring,glitter, Cookie cutters

Method:
1. Pour 1  cup of milk into a pot or microwaveable container
2. Heat the milk in the microwave or the stove until it is steaming
3. Add 4 teaspoons of white vinegar to a mug
4. Add the hot milk to the mug with the vinegar
5. scoop out the curds with a spoon and place them on a paper towel
6. Fold the paper towel over the curds and press down to absorb excess liquid
7. knead all the curds together into a ball of dough
8. You can colour your dough with food colouring
9. You can add glitter to make
the dough sparkle
10. You can use cookie cutters to shape your dough
11. Put all creations on a paper towel and let them dry overnight
How did the consistency of the milk change during the plastic-making process?
it was normal milk until it curled.

Fizzy frink and Mentos

Aim: To see Which fizzy drink reacts the most Mentos lollies

Hypothesis: I think that the coke is going to react the most with the Mentos.

Equipment

1. Mentos

2. Coke

3. Lemonade

4. Sparking Duet

5. Ruler

6. Beaker

Method

1. Collected and set up the beaker

2.  Got the 1st liquid and put 100 mls in the beaker.

3. Put the mentos into the liquid

4. Measured the Height  of the fizz

5. Repeat steps 1-4 with the second and third liquid

Rainbow paper

Aim: To separate colours by using the process of chromatography.

Definition: chromatography is a method of separating out materials from mixture using liquid

Materials:

1.  Boliing tube

2. Pen

3. Water

4. Filter paper

5. Scissors

6.  Test tube stand

7. Ruler

8. Pencil

Process

1. Cut up the filter paper into strips

2.  Rule a like 1cm from the bottom of the paper strip

3. Put 8ml of water into the bottom of the boiling tube

4. Draw two coloured pen dots on the pencil line.

5.  Drop the paper strip into the boiling tube and once it is touching the water at the bottom you can cress the top of the paper over. ,

6.  Watch, take 2 photos and observe the chromatography process on your paper

Skittles- Science

Chromatography is a technique for the separation of a mixture by passing it int he solution or suspension through a medium in which the components move at different time

Aim: To separate the colours from the skittles by using chromatography

Materials:

1. 6 Skittles

2. Water

3. Petri dish

4. Beaker

Progress:

Step 1: Get your Equipment set up ready to pour 25 mLS of water into the perti dish with the skittles

Step 2. Place skittles into perti dish around edges

Step 3. Pour 50mLS water gently into middle of the petri dish

step 4. Watch as the water removes the dye from the skittles. See what colour reaches to middle fastest

Step 5. Record your results  on table below
