Once we have completed the materials and steps we can make sherbet.

While you are eating your sherbet you can answer the 5 questions at the end.

Equipment:

  1. Sugar

  2. Baking Soda

  3. Raro Crystals

  4. Cirtic Acid

  5. Tartaric Acid

Steps

1. Add the baking soda sugar and citric acid together in a bowl.

2. Add the Raro crystals and tartaric acid together.

3. Add all ingredents together and place in a plastic bag.

4. Mix it well together and eat it. Yuck

Recipe:

1 teaspoon of powdered drink crystals (eg Raro)

1/4 teaspoon of citric acid

1 teaspoon of Icing Sugar

1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda.

Findings:

1. Which two ingredients in the sherbet are involved in the chemical reaction?

2. Which ingredients are not involved?

3. Can you think of any other chemical reactions that might happen in the kitchen?

4. Which ingredient is an acid?

5. Which ingredient is a base?

Acids and bases

Aim: To make red cabbage pH indicator for use on different household chemicals.

    2. Bring the solution to the boil using a bunsen burner and then turn off the heat. Let it sit to cool down.

    3. Pour the cabbage water through a paper towel into a beaker. The dark purple liquid in the jar is the pH indicator liquid.

    4. Suck up the indicator into a pipette.

    5. In a test tube, use the cabbage indicator and the pH chart below to test the acidity of the the hydrochloric acid and ammonium hydroxide.Findings.

Arts kete

  Arts kete
On Wednesday we had to do something for Arts Kete so in my opinion I really like Arts kete. Arts kete is where we go off to other class and do a lot of different kids of art not just art. In arts kete I'm doing watercolour painting, in watercolour painting we drew a Mohua bird for our template, Next time we will most likely be painting it with watercolour paint, We had to pick different colours that we want to paint our bird, We had to send a email to our teacher with a different combination that we would like to use next time, We also had to pick a song for our Arts kete playlist that we will be listing to every time we have Arts kete so then it isn't that quite.

So this is the combination I had picked and send to my teacher that I want to use next time.

So next time I might try find lighter colours so then it looks like a light combination that might go with the bird :D

1. Cut up the filter paper into strips

2.  Rule a like 1cm from the bottom of the paper strip

3. Put 8ml of water into the bottom of the boiling tube

4. Draw two coloured pen dots on the pencil line.

5.  Drop the paper strip into the boiling tube and once it is touching the water at the bottom you can cress the top of the paper over. ,

Skittles- Science

Chromatography is a technique for the separation of a mixture by passing it int he solution or suspension through a medium in which the components move at different time

Aim: To separate the colours from the skittles by using chromatography

Materials:

1. 6 Skittles

2. Water

3. Petri dish

4. Beaker

Progress:

Step 1: Get your Equipment set up ready to pour 25 mLS of water into the perti dish with the skittles

Step 2. Place skittles into perti dish around edges

Step 3. Pour 50mLS water gently into middle of the petri dish

step 4. Watch as the water removes the dye from the skittles. See what colour reaches to middle fastest

Step 5. Record your results  on table below

Hands on fire :D

 Aim:

To Safely light my hands on fire.

List and complete 4 ways of doing this safely

4.  LISTEN TO THE TEACHER OR SOMETHING WILL BAD HAPPEN!

Equipment

1. Detergent

2.  Lighter

3. Safety Glasses

4. Gas

5. Tray

6. Hose

Instructions

1. Collect your equipment

2. put some water into the tray

4. Put on your Glasses

5. Tie up any long hair

6. take off any jewellery

7. Wet your hands wrist and arms

8.Bubble the gas into the water

9. scoop the bubbles but not in water

10. Hold the bubbles in front of your face with your arms locked

Osmosis- Gummy Bears!

Osmosis: The movement of solvent through that wall of a solid.

Aim:

I want to find out what happens to Gummy Bears when we put them into different liquids

Prediction:

I think the Gummy Bears are going to shrink or grow in the liquids

Method:

Equipment

- Three solutions- Water-Sugar- and salt

- Four Gummy Bears of the same colour

- Two petri Dishes

- Maker pen

- Electronic Balance

- Beaker

Steps

1. Get your Equipment

2. Label Petri dishes with DRY, WATER, SALT WATER, SUGAR WATER

3. Weight the Gummy Bears and record their weight on the petri Dish.

4. Add 40mL of the solution into the petri dish.

Findings:

Weight change

Solvent

Dry

Wet

Water

2.35

4.50

Salt water

2.20

2.60

Sugar Water

2.22

3.29

FINDINGS:

The water that was included in the first gummy bear petri dish made the gummy bear change from a dry weight of (2.35)  to a wet Weight of (4.50) The difference between the two weights was the water in the water it absorbed more liquid  This means that the Gummy  bears absorbed this amount through the progress of osmosis.

The salt water gummy bear petri dish had a change from a dry weight of 2.20  TO a wet weight of (2.60)  The difference in these weights are that the salt water grew more.

The sugar water solution in the petri dish with the gummy bears made the gummy bear weigh 3.29 This means it absorbed 1.07 water in total

The gummy bear that changed the most was the gummy bear in the normal  water.

Floods

                                     Floods

Last week there were floods around Christchurch and lots of other places I think that biggest flood was in Ashburton. It was really wet and cold for a couple days now it has been sunny.

Fact about the Flood in Ashburton

Hundreds of north Canterbury residents have been evacuated from their homes - and further south, hundreds more Ashburton residents are on standby

The entire Canterbury region is now under a state of emergency and around 75 schools and preschools are closed on Monday as residents prepare for more upheaval.

Ashburton mayor Neil Brown said some locals had already started to evacuate overnight as rising river levels continued.

Pink Shirt Day

Friday Blog Day

Dear Readers

Today's Blog is  about Pink shirt day, something we've been working on in class this week.

Pink shirt day is to draw attention to the harmful effects of bullying and how it's important to be an outstander who can help prevent and stop bullying and not a bystander who looks on while others are being  bullied.

Can you say you're an outstander?

Quote of Week

BE A BUDDY NOT A BULLY!!!

What we did is we got to choose from a (crossword or a kahoot quiz),  I had picked a crossword instead of a kahoot quiz, We had to use a website and we put the words in and then the meanings of what the words mean the words were to do with Outstanding Vocabulary.

Here is what I made :)

Parihaka

 Kia Ora
Today's blog is about Parihaka.

In the 1870s and 1880s, Parihaka was the site of New Zealand most visible episodes of peaceful protest when two Maori leaders, Te Whiti & Tohu Kakahi used passive resistance methods to occupy Maori land that the colonial government had confiscated.

Here are some images to illustrate my work. I hope you like them and also my content. Please leave a comment that will hopefully encourage me to continue Blogging and make improvements where necessary.
